Sweet Water Trout Hatchery began in 1997 as a hobby to stock ponds on the family farm. Demand soon transformed the Sweet Water into a Vermont State Licensed Class A hatchery that now delivers fish all over New England.
Optimal number of trout for stocking depends on factors such as oxygen availability, temperature, and average depth of body of water. Average ponds in Northern Vermont can support up to one thousand 12” fish per surface acre. Stocking annually is recommended due to natural mortality rates and predatory losses.
Fish can be picked up at the Hatchery in oxygen bags or delivered in our specialized hauling tank. (Call for delivery rates).
